behind katie rainey design

Our mission at Katie Rainey Design is to craft exceptional waterfront homes and mountain view homes that
serve as serene retreats for our clients. Through a seamless design process and a commitment to integrity, we transform and design homes that are functional, elegant, and deeply connected to their natural surroundings. We strive to create spaces where families can thrive, make memories, and enjoy the beauty of
waterfront and mountain living.

meet the founder

I live a full and active life with my husband, Kyle, and our three children—MacArthur (12), Graham (9), and Liliana (7)—who are truly my world. As a family, we value time outdoors and are often skiing, hiking, fishing, or boating together. When I am not working, you will find me trail running with our golden retriever, Bodhi, skiing in the mountains, or practicing yoga. This lifestyle strongly influences how I think about home as a place that supports connection, movement, and everyday living.

Our favorite clients are often high-achieving professionals and accomplished families who are investing in homes that support the way they truly live. As part of a military family, I have lived in seven of our United States and in Europe, experiences that exposed me to different cultures, architecture, and ways of life. From the historic structure and formality of Charleston to the openness and ease of California living, each place carries its own rhythm and design language. That diversity continues to shape how our team approaches every project with respect for place and lifestyle.

We specialize in interior design for new construction and remodels, from mountain homes in New Hampshire to waterfront residences in Annapolis. My doctorate in Physical Therapy brings a distinct perspective to our work, translating into three core strengths: a deep understanding of how people move through space, a refined sense of scale and flow, and an ability to design environments that quietly support comfort and ease. These skills allow us to guide clients through the design process with clarity and intention, protecting their investment while creating homes that feel natural, thoughtful, and enduring.
